China Steel investing in modern product handling
Pesmel is growing on new market areas
One of the leading steel manufacturers in South East Asia, Taiwanese CSC (China Steel Corporation) has signed a contract to invest in new fully automated storage and logistic system to be supplied by Pesmel. The system is a part of company’s investment project Cold Rolling Mill 3 that will be launched in 2010. The delivery includes a fully automated 560 coil place high bay storage with modern logistic system to integrate the production, storage and packing processes into a flexible and efficient handling solution. The system will be delivered to CSC’s main steel mill located in Siaogang District, Kaohsiung.
China Steel Corporation is the leading Taiwaneese Steel producer with an annual production more than 10 miljon ton annually and going up to 20 milj ton in coming few years is one oft top steel companies in Asia.
“We have actively focused on Asian markets and this project strengthens our market position and is therefore an important milestone for Pesmel”. states Timo Äijö, CEO Pesmel Oy. Especially in the current economic situation the project is important and signalling to the steel markets that competitive advantages require advanced processes.
In CSC mill, the high bay storage is functioning as an intermediate storage. The main function is to integrate production processes like coil annealing and coil galvanizing as well as handling processes like packing and inspection simultaneously. The system is handling coils up to 30 tons.
One of the issues that were important to customer was the efficient usage of storage space. “With our storage solution, we were able to really optimize the specified space, which is a clear benefit of our system”. Says Timo Äijö
The storage acts as a brain of the total system controlling the storage and logistic functions with sophisticated WMS (Warehouse Management System). WMS is a modern information system, which controls the material flows providing full redundancy and efficiency. The system communicates with Mill Information System (MIS) by receiving internal orders for different processes.
Pesmel system is using modern logistics with high automation level and sophisticated technical solutions that bring significant advantages. In CSC the logistics of the mill will be carried out with coil carriage system, which brings flexibility, simplicity and efficiency to the system compared to old technologies, where all processes need to be synchronized to each other. The carriage system allows all processes to go independently and brings more capacity and reliability to overall logistics.
Pesmel Ltd Taiwan will start operating in Kaoshiung later this year The main business will be technical services, spare parts and engineering support for our customers.
