SSAB (Svenskt Stål Aktiebolag) is a leading producer of high-strength steel sheet and steel coils in Scandinavia. The group comprises four subsidiaries: SSAB Tunnplåt and SSAB Oxelösund are the steelworks businesses, Plannja is the processing company and Tibnor is the group's trading arm.
The group has a turnover of almost SEK 25 billion. Pesmel Oy, located in Kauhajoki Finland has been selected to supply four new coil packing lines to SSAB Tunnplåt AB Sweden. SSAB is renewing their finishing area in the mill sites of Borlänge and Finspång and furnishing them with latest automated material handling equipments. Start up of the lines is scheduled for the second part of 2008.
The new packaging lines are each capable of handling 15 coils an hour. The coils are automatically packed and handled with through the eye paper and plastic method, plastic mantel protection and steel edge protection, and coil car movements, all supplied by Pesmel. All these operations are to be performed under one person’s supervision.
